New Traffic Restrictions in Mexico City

Starting at 05:00 hours on Monday, vehicles with yellow stickers and license plates ending in 5 or 6 will not be allowed to circulate in Mexico City and certain municipalities in the State of Mexico. These measures are part of the Hoy no Circula program, which establishes restrictions until 22:00 hours. Those who fail to comply with these provisions will face economic fines, which could amount to a total of three thousand 394 pesos.

The penalties for violating these restrictions include a monetary fine, which is determined based on the Measurement and Update Unit (UMA). Additionally, the driver must pay a fee of 919 or one thousand 833 pesos to retrieve their vehicle if it is towed, depending on how much it exceeds the weight limit of the tow truck. These measures apply in the 16 boroughs of Mexico City and in various municipalities in the State of Mexico.

Regarding restrictions for other types of vehicles, the Hoy no Circula program establishes that cars with hologram 2 and foreign cars with foreign plates will not be able to circulate on Saturdays from 05:00 to 22:00 hours. Likewise, vehicles with hologram 1 are prohibited from circulating on certain Saturdays of the month, depending on the ending of their license plate. Those with holograms 0 and 00 are not affected by these restrictions.

Additionally, certain vehicles such as agricultural tractors, motorcycles, units with a gross vehicle weight of less than 400 kilograms, among others, are exempt from the program's restrictions. These provisions aim to improve air quality in the region and promote the use of more sustainable means of transportation.
